Welcome

History of Lighthouse

There is a long history behind lighthouses.
I find Lighthouses to be beautiful
and  they give me a feeling of pure calm
when I think of sitting at the water’s edge
watching the ships come safely home.
Starting out, people would set fires at the edge of the water
to warn the ships of dangerous rocks
and the impending shore line.
The Egyptians were the first people
to actually build light houses
and in 283 they built the tallest light house ever,
it was 900 feet tall and guided ships for over 1,500 years.
Light houses were built to help us warn the ships
 to straighten their positions
so they didnt wreck on the shore.
Lighthouses are mostly built on harbors, islands and beaches.
Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans built the first light houses
using wick lamps then prisms and
today most lighthouses are run by electricity.
I love sitting on the beach
watching the sunset as the day is starting to fade.
I can sit their listening to the water run back and forth
with the tide until the sun finally sets.
